Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba
Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba
Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba ecstatically explore the spiritual songs, stories, and rhythms of Senegal’s millenia-old Mandé culture. Indeed, Cissokho comes from a long line of prominent griots, or storytellers, who are entrusted to maintain a West African village’s most important ceremonial affairs through song. But he is much more than a preservationist. Cissokho and his band, Kaira Ba, effortlessly integrate the traditional sounds of the kora with a modern rush of electric guitar and an exuberant rhythm section. Together, Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba sustain one of West Africa’s most expressive legacies with their own energetic interpretations. ⎯ Grayson Haver Currin

Elikeh
Elikeh uses elements of Togolese rhythms as a foundation for exploration into American-influenced blues, funk and rock to produce captivating Afro-pop tunes that are as listenable as they are danceable. Although based in indigenous traditions, Elikeh's music has no borders, exploring global themes and personal odysseys.

The group's leader, Massama Dogo, was born in Togo and developed his singing and songwriting ability performing with several local bands. He also acted as musical director of the University Orchestra in Togo.

Elikeh recently released a new album Between 2 Worlds featuring the Malian guitarist, Vieux Farka Toure and John Kadlecik, lead Guitarist of Furthur. In recent months, Elikeh has performed with Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, Vieux Farka Toure, Bombino, John Kadlecik of Furthur and Dark Star Orchestra.
